Three Days in Rome: A Journey through Time and Culture.

During our 2 weeks in Italy with family trip, we started in Rome, the eternal capital of Italy, it stands as a testament to centuries of history, art, and civilization. With three days at your disposal, you can immerse yourself in its iconic ruins, exquisite art, and vibrant neighborhoods. This itinerary will guide you through the must-see attractions, culinary delights, and hidden gems that Rome has to offer. We walked most of the time as there were so many historical delights around every corner, but you can easily hop on a bus when moving between neighbourhoods.

Day 1: Ancient Rome and Architectural Marvels

Colosseum and Roman Forum:

Begin your journey at the Colosseum, the symbol of ancient Rome's grandeur. Explore its towering arches and passageways before heading to the Roman Forum, where you can stroll through the remnants of temples and civic buildings.

Palatine Hill:

Climb Palatine Hill to discover the imperial palaces and enjoy panoramic views of the Roman Forum and Circus Maximus.

Capitoline Hill and Museums:

Visit the Capitoline Hill, home to Michelangelo's Piazza del Campidoglio and the Capitoline Museums. Admire ancient sculptures, artworks, and the breathtaking view of the Roman Forum.

Day 2: Vatican City and Artistic Treasures

Vatican Museums:

Spend your morning exploring the Vatican Museums, home to an exceptional collection of art and historical artifacts. Don't miss the Sistine Chapel, where Michelangelo's ceiling frescoes are a masterpiece of Renaissance art.

St. Peter's Basilica:

Visit St. Peter's Basilica, a Renaissance masterpiece and one of the largest churches in the world. Climb to the top of the dome for a panoramic view of Vatican City and Rome.

Castel Sant'Angelo:

Conclude your day at Castel Sant'Angelo, a fortress and mausoleum that offers intriguing history and stunning vistas.

Day 3: Neighborhoods, Parks, and Culinary Delights

Trastevere:

We once stayed at Hotel Ponte Sisto which is so convenient to begin your day in Trastevere, a charming neighborhood known for its narrow streets, artisan shops, and traditional trattorias. Explore the Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere and soak in the local atmosphere.

Villa Borghese Gardens:

Spend your afternoon in Villa Borghese Gardens, a lush oasis in the heart of Rome. Rent a rowboat on the lake, visit the Borghese Gallery for remarkable art, and enjoy a relaxing picnic.

Piazza Navona and Pantheon:

Wander through Piazza Navona, adorned with fountains and lively energy. Head to the Pantheon, an ancient temple turned church, to marvel at its dome and the oculus that lets in natural light. Visit the Spanish Steps at piazza di spagna to enjoy the people, the sights and rest your weary feet. My boys dubbed their aching feet - "Roman Feet" after all the walking we did.

Conclude your Rome adventure with an enchanting evening stroll through the historic streets. Enjoy a leisurely dinner at a local trattoria, savoring Italian cuisine and reflecting on the rich experiences of the past three days.

In three days, Rome offers a journey through time, art, and culture. By following this itinerary, you'll have the opportunity to explore ancient ruins, admire exquisite artworks, and savor the delights of Italian cuisine at mercato centrale. Rome's captivating history and vibrant spirit are bound to leave an indelible mark on your heart, inspiring you to return and uncover even more of its treasures.
